5 Tips for Novice Travelers to Plan & Pack Like a Pro!

Number 1 of 5 Tips for Novice Travelers to Plan & Pack Like a Pro!

CHECK THE WEATHER

Make sure to check the weather at your destination for the duration of your trip before you start packing. This will help you determine what type of clothing to bring and ensure that you’re prepared for any weather conditions.

You can use weather apps or websites to check the current and forecast weather but I like to use my Notion Travel Planner with the added weather widget that way I can see weather updates in real-time when I am putting together my packing list. I also love using Pinterest to find outfit inspiration for different types of weather.

MAKE A PACKING LIST

Before you start packing, make a list of all the items you need to bring. This will help you avoid forgetting anything important and ensuring you don’t over pack and you stay organize. You can start your list by categorizing your items into clothing, toiletries, electronics, documents, and any other miscellaneous essentials you might need.

You can also use a packing app or template to help you create and manage your list. I created an easy to use packing list template in my Notion Travel Planner that works like a charm! Once you’ve used it a couple times, you will have a good idea of what you regularly pack and can just add or remove items you don’t need.

PACK LIGHT

It’s tempting to bring everything you think you might need, but packing light is key to traveling comfortably. Stick to essentials and avoid bringing items that you can easily purchase at your destination. Think about the purpose of your trip, the activities you will be doing, and the climate of your destination.

Pack versatile clothing and accessories that can be mixed and matched to create different outfits. I also keep a toiletry bag stocked specifically for trips with all my toiletries already packed and ready to go. It’s such a huge convenience and time-saver when it’s time to pack. I just check what needs refilling, replacing or to be removed.”It also ensures, I don’t forget things I need, especially if I am in a hurry!

USE PACKING CUBES AND/OR VACUUM BAGS

Packing cubes and vacuum bags are a great way to stay organized and save space in your luggage. Use them to group similar items together and make it easier to find what you need. You can use different colors or labels to identify the contents of each cube. I prefer vacuum bags over cubes because they are really great at maximizing space and keep clothes fresh and moisture-free. I also like using them for soiled clothes if I am unable to wash them before returning home from my trip.

LEAVE ROOM FOR EXTRAS

If you plan on buying souvenirs during your trip, or simply forgot something because even the pros do, make sure to leave some extra space in your luggage. You don’t want to have to choose between leaving behind your favorite t-shirt, shoes or your new souvenir. You can also pack a fold-able bag or backpack that you can use as an extra carry-on or checked bag if needed. I like to bring my mini zip-up laundry bag to store dirty clothes separately.

Aside from these tips for novice travelers, there are many more that help me save time and money but the above are the most practical if you are in need of a simple guide that works!
